First off, Air Traffic were amazing (good times obviously). We left home at 5.30, and after lots of driving around and asking students for directions we got there at about 6.40. Only 3 people were there before us. Come 7.40, when the doors opened, I got in straight away and ended up waiting for Lauren, who had got lost in the queue. We ran to the front centre, after I insisted to Lauren that the moshpit would not be THAT bad.
The Wallbirds came on, gosh they were brilliant. I'd seen them before so I was the only one singing along to all the words. And we're seeing them again in 2 weeks exactly seeing them supporting One Night Only
.
Team Waterpolo were the second support group, and they were really good to dance to. I knew their single 'Letting Go' and the b-side to it 'Problematic Girls' so I was singing along to them too.
Air Traffic, well what can I say, so so worth waiting for. I have a big grin on my face just writing about it. There was a big wait before they came on, which wasn't until just after 10, bam! straight into Charlotte, during which I phoned Charlotte and let her listen in to the song. I think she enjoyed it as much as I did! After that I don't remember the particular order, but they played all of the album apart from Your Fractured Life, a couple of b-sides (An End To All Our Problems was particularly ace), Come On and other new songs such as Take Your Hands Off Me, which I enjoyed lots. Lauren did her best to take a couple of decent videos, which I posted at www.youtube.com/hannahjay93 , some of them are however ruined by the blokes behind us pushing us around and screaming "I WANT YOUR BABIES!" after every song. This girl next to Lauren got so fed up of them saying it she screamed "SHUT THE FUCK UP!", so that was funny.
They came back for an encore of 3 songs, first of all the brilliant Empty Space, only ruined by the chanting guys behind me but I ignored that as much as possible and my eyes were brimming with tears of pride and joy. Next they played Suffragette City, a David Bowie cover, the only song they could agree on apparently. That went hugely well compared to the night before when they said they'd "fucked it up" and it all mounted to a very moshworthy Shooting Star, their biggest hit to date, which everyone was singing along to.
When I walked out of the venue never had my ears hummed with tinnitus or my mind buzzed with happiness so much in my life. Me and Lauren talked about it all the way home, with Lauren coming to the conclusion that she wanted Jim's (the bass player from Air Traffic) babies.
On Friday I attended Nanny's wake. It wasn't as solemn as I thought it would be, the afternoon's entertainment provided by Scoob, who was performing magic tricks with pub glasses.
I missed Mayfair due to working so I was glad that on Saturday I didn't have to work in the evening and I got to go to the carnival and saw all my mates for the first time since Wednesday. I watched the carnival with Megan, Carly and Jourdan, who lives across the way from Megan. We mercilessly mocked Lauren on her little Viking float.
Lauren gave me a hint as to what she might have been a few days before. She said 'they wear brown shirts', I automatically said hillbilly. My reason? Well, obviously, their shirts are brown after rolling around in mud!
After the carnival we went to the fair, and we all put our money together so we could all go on the rides. The Rhythm Dancer, that fucking hurt. And the waltzers gave me a bruise in my back. Today the rides are £1 each, n
